Jake Roberts Associate Pastor
Jake Roberts’ heart was gripped by the love of Jesus when as a ninth-grader a school janitor shared the love of Jesus with him. Jake and his wife, Sharry, have been married for over 50 years and have 4 adult children and 8 grandchildren. Jake served as the Senior Pastor at Monument Bible Church from 1991-2011, and now serves as Associate Pastor, primarily focusing on pastoral care and discipleship. Jake is an avid hunter, fisherman, and fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. His heartbeat is to follow the command in Mark 1:17, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men” and 2 Timothy 2:2, “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” He is passionate about Jesus and discipleship. He faithfully pours himself into men to “equip them for works of service, to the building up of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12)
Perry Brening Director of Worship & Media
Perry has been blessed to have grown up in the valley with worship and music playing a large role in his life. Thankfully, he came to know Christ at the age of 9 while attending VBS. His music ministry began soon thereafter as he sang in local churches with his family for many years. He also has been fortunate over a period of 35 years to have led multiple worship teams as well. In his journey he found the love of his life, Robin and they had two sons, Nick and Chris. He gained his music education through Chadron State College, and Master’s Degree from Lesley University in Boston. He has been a music educator since 1986, then took a fulltime worship leading position for 8 years and is now teaching vocal music at Bluffs Middle School. His interests are hanging with family, yardwork, Husker football, and golf. Perry says, “It has been an honor and privilege to grow up in the valley with the unique opportunities of knowing so many amazing people. I do love to lead worship… However, the title ‘worship leader’ is in fact what every Christ follower is called to be. Leading our families, our friends, and our community in understanding how our lives are lived to give God the glory IS OUR CALLING!” To whom much is given, much will be required (Luke 12:48) Let everything that has breath… Praise the LORD! (Psalm 150:6) “Let us all lead in worship!”
I love to tell the story… Of Jesus and His love!
As I look back on the road I've travelled, I see so many times He carried me through; And if there's one thing that I've learned in my life, My Redeemer is faithful and true. (Steven Curtis Chapman)
